Camp Charlie is partnering with Destination Theater this year. This is a free day camp for bereaved children 5-17 years old (lodging accommodations are not included if you plan to travel to attend).

Venue: Boulder Circus Center in Boulder, Colorado

Dates: June 1-5, 2026

Time: 9am-3pm

Sample Daily Schedule

9:00 AM Morning Circle & Check-In
10:00 AM Playwriting Workshop
12:30 PM Lunch + Free Play
1:30 PM Acting & Improvisation Workshop
3:00 PM Wrap-Up + Check-Out / Reflection Journals

Core Elements
1. General Framework (Grief-Informed & Trauma-Sensitive)
○ Individual check-ins
○ Incorporation of Charlie’s Guys’ therapeutic recommendations and resources
○ Use of narrative storytelling tools (e.g., elements of a story, script-writing, improv and theatre games/exercises, etc)

2. Theatre & Playwriting Tracks
○ Creative Writing: Guided journaling and playwriting based on campers’
emotions, memories, and dreams
○ Acting & Performance: Role-play, improvisation, and storytelling games to help kids safely explore grief and identity
○ Production: Collaborative creation of short plays or monologues to be
performed in a final showcase (optional participation based on comfort)

3. Integration of Charlie’s Guys' Mission
○ Workshops on “kindness as legacy” to help kids connect their loved one’s memory to acts of creativity and compassion
○ Opportunities for campers to dedicate their plays to the person they lost, with optional visual dedications

4. Post-Camp Follow-Up
○ Digital copies of each camper’s script (if desired)

Outcomes & Impact
We aim to support the mental, emotional, and social well-being of grieving children by:
● Providing a creative outlet for expressing grief in a non-verbal and symbolic way
● Helping children feel seen, heard, and not alone in their experiences
● Fostering resilience through creativity, collaboration, and connection
